Story-time with Rosie

Hi! I’m Rosie, co-founder of CupFull and this is my story of how our baby CupFull was born.

My passion for pregnancy and postpartum nutrition began during my second pregnancy. Around 30 weeks, I became really ill and spent a couple of weeks in hospital. T'was not a vibe. As I moved between wards, I found myself surrounded by high-risk pregnant women and new mums who, like me, needed extra care and recovery.

The midwives and doctors were incredible and caring (you absolutely rock!), but I was really surprised and appalled by the food provided. Apart from a piece of fruit, nothing on the menu seemed nutritious for anyone—let alone for pregnant or postpartum women in need of extra healing and strength. It was all processed food with little nutritional benefits and it actually made me feel quite gross.

That experience sent me down a rabbit hole. I became obsessed with learning about what pregnant and postpartum women truly need to nourish their bodies. My research led me to incredible experts in the field and eventually to study Pregnancy and Postpartum Nutrition at Oh Baby Holistic School of Nutrition, which specializes in this area.

After my second baby was born, despite having a really supportive environment, I struggled with postnatal depression. It sucked. Postnatal depression has many contributing factors, and everyone’s experience is different, but for me, I believe a big contributing factor was due to nutrient deficiencies. My time in the hospital on antibiotics left me depleted, and I didn’t know how to properly support my body to rebuild my microbiome and restore my nutrient levels.

Therapy and opening up to friends became my lifelines during this hard time. Slowly, with this amazing support and a renewed focus on nutrition, I began to heal and feel like myself again. Looking back, although it was really tough, I don’t feel resentment or wish to erase that chapter of my life. Instead, I feel deeply grateful for the understanding and empathy it has given me towards other mums struggling.

During those tough days, one of the ways I regained a sense of control and self-care was through preparing nutritious smoothie packs for myself. They became my secret weapon—something quick, easy, and nourishing I could grab when I felt overwhelmed. Whether it was a rushed morning or an afternoon slump, these smoothies helped me power through the next shift.

Making time to prep and consume something so nutrient-dense made me feel like I was doing something positive for myself. It was one small way to fill my own cup when everything else felt chaotic.

One of the friends who I reached out to during this time was my beautiful little ray of sunshine, my pal, Courtenay. Among the daily check-ins and motivating words of encouragement to keep going ("you can do hard things, you got this!"), we talked about these smoothies and how they had been life-changing for me. We realized that these could be a game-changer for other mums, too. When mums are nourished and cared for, everything seems to flow better for the entire family.

And that’s how our baby CupFull was born. Together, Courtenay and I created a brand with one simple goal: to help mums fill their cups so they can fill others.

Our mantra has always been 'keep it simple'. As busy mums, time is a luxury, so we’ve made the most of every spare moment to bring CupFull to life during lunch naps and playdates.

It’s been an incredible journey—balancing the chaos of motherhood while building something we’re deeply passionate about. CupFull is just getting started. We have big dreams for the future, but for now, we’re focused on making a mum’s day just a little easier—one smoothie at a time.

If you’re a mum in the thick of it, we see you, we understand you, and we’re here to help. We hope CupFull smoothies give you the nourishment and energy to keep going. You are an amazing mum, you can do this.

With love,
Rosie xx
